Coca is a very controversial plant. Scientifically named Erythroxylum coca, it is native to Southern American countries such as Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina and Colombia.
Coca is notoriously famous for its psychoactive alkaloid content called cocaine. As commonly known, cocaine is one of the most regulated substances in the world. Coca-Cola, the world’s most famous carbonated drink, is also derived from the coca plant, with the alkaloid cocaine completely removed of course.
Coca is mainly used medically as a stimulant. South Americans who cultivated the coca plant during the early times used it to overcome thirst, fatigue and hunger. It was also used for its anesthetic and analgesic attribute to help alleviate pain brought about by wounds, headache, sores and rheumatism. Some evidence also suggest that it was used as a substitute for medical anesthesia when treating people with broken bones, cranial operations and childbirth.
Modern studies of the coca plant have warranted a number of medical applications such as but not limited to blood vessel constrictor to prevent bleeding, bowel laxity prevention, and treatment for asthma, malaria, and ulcers. It’s also used to improve digestion and boost longevity.
With all of these medicinal uses in mind, it is safe to say that using coca leaves (Erythroxylon coca) to treat anal fissure is possible.
What is anal fissure? Anal fissure is a condition of the anus where a cut, laceration or tear is exhibited in the anal mucosa. It is a condition that is caused by childbirth, STD (sexually transmitted disease), passing of hard stool and Crohn’s Disease.
Anal fissure usually manifests itself on the lining of the anorectal area, just above the anus where fecal matter is discharged. A person who has anal fissure often experiences pain when defecating, feels a sensation of itchiness and burning in the rectal area, and exhibits spot bleeding during defecation.
Most anal fissures are acute in nature. They remain small and usually heals within a week’s time. There are, however, certain instances where the fissure fails to heal itself, and therefore, increases its severity and size. This is when the fissure goes chronic. Chronic anal fissures are more pronounced and increases the possibility of the fissure leaving an extensive scar. The pain felt increases in degree and the bleeding becomes more profuse.
With this mind, the coca leaf is very ideal in treating chronic anal fissures. Due to coca’s inherent ability to constrict vessels and prevent bleeding, it makes it ideal to address the profuse bleeding brought about by the deeper fissure. As an anesthetic, it is also perfect for significantly reducing pain brought about by fissure sores.
If not only for its cocaine component, it would be very easy to make the life of a person with anal fissure a lot, lot better. If by any chance you have come across coca leaves, please consult with your local laws as to the legality of the coca plant’s usage. You don’t want the ATF or DEA come knocking on your door just because you we’re misinformed. Also, consult with your local physician before self-medication. Different complications may arise if you ingest the wrong dosage of these medicinal items to treat anal fissure. Simply put, using coca leaves (Erythroxylon coca) to treat anal fissure shouldn’t be hastily done.
