Acute or chronic anal fissures cause terrible pain in the posterior because they are tears or inflammation in the anus area or the anal canal. People who suffer from anal fissures may experience brief and irritating pain or lasting and excruciating pain especially during bowel movements. Some people are afraid of suffering that they end up not moving their bowels. This results in constipation and fecal impaction. The danger with not passing your bowels at the appropriate time is that the constipation will cause you to pass a harder and much larger stool which will trigger more trauma to the anal area. This may result in more tears, more bleeding, more itching and, generally, greater discomfort.
Even as constipation should be addressed by having the patient make regular bowel movements and taking prescriptions for softening the stool, anal fissures should be treated immediately to ease the posterior pain suffered by patients. Topical treatments can be applied to soothe the sore tissues and relieve the swelling and tenderness as well as eliminate the itching.
Most topical anesthetics help reduce the pain caused by bowel movements but these may contain steroids. Steroids may thin out the anoderm which will result in its susceptibility to further trauma. Other remedies include oral medications that help relax the muscle tissues in the internal sphincter and reduce the blood flow. When muscles are relaxed, the anal fissures can heal effectively especially during rest. Most ointments as well as herbs and essential oils moderate spasms and cause formation and healing to the soft tissues in the anal area.
As with other medicinal herbs, it is also advisable to use yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis) to treat anal fissure. The sweet clover, also commonly known as melilot, is used in treating hemorrhoids, minor injuries, dyspepsia, phlebitis and varicose veins. While the yellow sweet clover is generally considered fare for grazing animals, it is also quite popular in the field of medicine. The sweet clover contains substances and chemicals that strengthen lymph vessels and the walls of the blood vessels. Its leaves and stems are used as diuretic.
Patients with venous insufficiency are treated with the extract from this plant. Venous insufficiency leads to conditions such as anal fissures, phlebitis, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Usually, the sweet clover is mixed with oxerutin and other bioflavonoids in order to make an effective remedy because it contains coumarins, known to be a blood thinner. Elephantiasis, edema and even digestive disturbances can be addressed by using the sweet clover extract.
When the yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis) to treat anal fissure is suggested, it may be taken orally in preparations of 3 to 30 mg extracts or as topical treatment on the fissure. Just as other medicinal herbs, the use of sweet clover should be done cautiously. It should never be used in conjunction with blood-thinning drugs. If you are using warfarin, clopidogrel, heparin or any aspirin, refrain from using the sweet clover. Pregnant and nursing women, as well as young children, should not be allowed to use this as well.
